Reverse Polarity

I have seen it discussed before but not taken it on board!  I arrived at an ACSI site yesterday and during setup Monsieur arrived and asked if I had Reversed Polarity I asked how I would know!  He gave what I call a French Shrug and said if it works you are OK.  Well it has been working for 24 hours so I hope I am ok?  Any tips would be most welcome.  I am in Brittany where the hook up appears exactly the same as UK but is it?
