There used to be unisex cubicles at Black Knowl and there were queues for them ,back to good old uk segregation from july    probably will have at least one family room,as they seems to be installed when major refurbs are carried out

Some sites have unisex some don't, some have unisex showers but not toilets (I prefer that) Some sites go to unisex facilities in the low season, at a guess to cut down on the cleaning.

Unlike Brue I'm not a lover of the all in cubicle (toilet, sink, shower) if its just the sink and shower that's fine but I really don't want to have a shower while having to smell the previous occupants offering frown one of the sites we like to stay at in France, last year changed their facilities.

In previous visits there were 2 blocks 1 for men and 1 for women, they had toilets along one side and opposite were the shower cubicles and open sinks. They have still got the 2 blocks but now the toilets are in one, unisex, and the showers and sinks in the other block also unisex, they also have at the very end of the rows 2 family cubicles, I had a look in and it has 2 shower heads and a sink with lots of room for getting dried. I thought this was a very good idea.

True and disabled facilities are all in one, much better to have a hand basin near to a loo, less chance of cross infections via too many surfaces etc.

That's the set up I will miss, I did use them sometimes and didn't notice queues as I'd use them outside of busy times. It was such a clever circular design, I think it won awards originally. Back to the old style block now, judging by the photos. frown

Unfortunately, as has been reported on CT already, the "mess" can sometimes be found in shower cubicules as well.

Unisex, communal, open plan anyone? Worked for the Romans!

I would not have fancied being the guy at the end of the trough though Nav. 😱 The ablutions block at Housesteads fort is an eye opener. Apparently sponges were used in place of paper.

Are there not some parts missing there? The sponges were on sticks, and they did not have any soap.

All part of the same subject ,according to site staff it is the ladies showers that need the most cleaning usually ,with drains blocked with hair and walls and floors with talc and not unusual for sanitary towels left in them ,so would  us men really want to follow that in unisex showerssmile

We've strayed from the OP's suggestion of less washbasin cubicles and more showers in the ladies facilities. Since they vary quite a bit I presume newer places will have adequate showers?

"Why can't a woman be more like a man"

I'm not in favour of unisex ablutions as I would be expected to shave and put on a clean shirt before visiting them.

Sponge on a stick. Allegedly the origin of

'getting the wrong end of the stick'  😉

On the sites we've been on wash cubicles usually equal showers in numbers but are far less used.

With regard to talc - not something I use but in the days of mop and bucket it could be washed away 😉

With regard to hair loss in the showers I wouldn't think there'd be much in it but possibly ladies is longer strands.
