Toilet blocks

Is it time for the Club to review the number of shower cubicles / wash cubicles in ladies toilet blocks?  We have returned from a great Easter break and noticed that, when all 6 showers were is use and a queue forming, the wash cubicles were empty.  I have always encouraged my 2 daughters to shower and then use the wash cubicle to change - however, I am aware that this is not shared by the majority - most ladies seem to shower and change in the same cubicle.  It would be fair to say that times have changed and we do seem to shower more often.

Would it be beneficial for the Club to adapt some wash cubicles into showers or consider this when redeveloping sites?

Snooky, your question has been asked previously, and formed quite a lengthy debate. Perhaps you could do a search and find the previous posts.

Yes but wasn't that from a male point of view? I seem to remember male posters saying they needed somewhere to shave?

I totally agree that men need the cubicles for shaving - this post refers to female toilet blocks

But they are rarely used. Last CC site I was on, had 6 cubicles, & I never saw them being used,  admittedly the site was half full. (Remember this is  SWMBO's sign in wink)

In these days of demands for equality for everything, there must be the same opportunities offered to the ladies as to the gentlemen. Whether they wish to shave there is up to them. Just as a mater of passing interest, are razor points provided in the ladies versions?

yes if you read my post I was backing your new discussion, as my post said, the previous discussion was from a male point of view.

Good post about shaving. We only have one hair dryer, maybe they have more or one in each cubical?

Shall we discuss unisex shower facilities? I am sure that the European posters will soon be on saying how this is very common and works a treat over the Chanel wink

Snooky, how do your daughters get from the shower cubicle to the basin cubicle to change without putting clothes on?  Just curious embarassed

Having just spent the Easter weekend on a very busy site, and even though I chose to avoid the morning rush by showering in the evening, I did observe that extra pressure may be put on the ladies' showers with mums showering several children, both girls and boys.  Just wondering, do dads shower their children in the men's showers too?

Hoping this question won't result in comments about a bias against children as it's not intended.

Unisex showers wouldn't be a bad idea actually. A lot of leisure centres have them, and provide half a dozen family changing cubicles, with no problems whatsoever.

Hi Bandgirl - my daughters wrap their towels around them and move into opposite wash cubicle, it frees up showers especially if there is a queue

Hi Cornersteady - we holiday in France in the summer so are used to unisex showers,  although in some cases the toilets are still marked female/male.

unisex showers could be considered as a solution - any thoughts?

Unisex is one thing. As long as we don't also adopt those horrible push button taps, so loved on the other side.

I understand the need for facility blocks where tent campers are pitched and for some basic types of vans. Other than that I'm not a fan so don't see the need for much to change. I'd rather pay less for a site and use my own facs.  A few CMC sites don't seem to have enough showers, usually the leasehold sites where only basic improvements take place. I used to like the idea of the all in one shower, loo and basin facilities at Black Knowl, now gone no doubt. frown Perhaps the reviews should have a rating for wash block facilities not just overall facility groupings.

Imagine my surprise, when I recently discovered that I had a shower, wash basin and toilet in my caravan.  Am I the only one?

I use the facility block as well as our own van's on board kit. The wife just uses the van.

For me, an early morning freshen up is far more convenient in the van, but I do like a long hot shower in the evening before going to bed.  It's usually so late that I'm not inconveniencing anyone.

I also like the cubicles to have a good wet shave prior to showering.

Hi Snooky, thanks for your reply.  I wondered after I commented whether or not they used towelling gowns.  In any case, my comment was rather tongue in cheek, but you have clearly brought your daughters up with good manners and to be considerate towards others smile

With regards to unisex showers, I have used them in France and have to say I felt a bit uncomfortable in the shower with a man in the next cubicle, so my preference would be for separate facilities where possible, or to use the shower in our caravan.

Yes, but as we all know, "Brexit means Brexit" and I'm sure I heard that nice Mrs May saying that meant we didn't have to be dictated to by our "friends over there" about how we perform our ablutions! laughing

(Actually, I could have just made that up?)

so, what actually is the setup over the water with these things? Is there male and female toilets block but unisex showers. or unisex blocks? Also are there privacy cubicles?

Seems to be a mixture of everything you just have to be careful that you don't forget some sites do not have unisex!  Make sure you know your Hommes from your Femmes!

I've never seen more than one cubicle being used.....more often none are being used.

I have, however, seen queues for both toilets and showers.

Mrs H reports that it's the same in the female block, except possibly worse, because they tend to take longer, apparently.

It is not what the people in the countries still in the EU are doing that will drive the change but the need to accomodate all gender/non-gender types without making someone feel discriminated against enough to sue for millions of pounds for damage to their feelings.

At the last count there were 14 different gender/non-gender types but even having 14 different toilet blocks would not be enough to accomodate a person who goes in thinking they are of a particular gender/non-gender type but decides to change while they are inside and is embarrased to be seen coming out.

So the only way to accomodate this will be to have but one type of toilet that is ungendered with facilities suited to all possibilities.
