Hi Fellow Caravan Tourer,

Going on our first European Trip in May & June, starting in the Santander area and travelling under the Pyrenees to Barcelona. Moving up through France to Caen !

Can you suggestion / recommend any sites that will take a 7.5 metre van ?

Do you normally book your next stop a day or two in advance or just turn up ?

I know - so many questions, but for 1st timers it all seems a bit daunting.

Hope to hear from you.

Happy Touring in 2017.

Mick from Beds.

Would be useful to get an Acsi discount card if you don't already have one, at that time of year it will pay for itself in 1 or 2 nights.

I take it you are using the Santander ferry crossing, if so there are lots of sites along that coast and on to the Pyrenees, most of them in the Acsi book.

AD's advice about not needing to book ahead is spot on sites are rarely full/busy at that time of year.

Hi Mick,we stayed in Norther Spain last year at Camping Playa Joyel which was a nice site located on one of the best beaches we have been to. The only drawback, for us, was that it was lively and busy at weekends but absolutely dead during the week as was the town so,if its peace and quiet you are after then no problem.

We have done the reverse journey from Camping Villanova to Santander in 2014 and it is our longest ever tow in one day at 410 miles but also one of the best.

We left Vilanova at 0755, had two 30 minute and a one hour stop, and were at the port at 1805, the route was a great drive with lots of contrast as you head up onto and then down from the plain and was very, very quiet traffic wise.I have a picture of our outfit parked at motorway services and we are the only vehicle there mid morning.

We like Vilanova but pitches are quite variable and we moved from the one that was being offered without a problem. It has very good facilities and the bus service, from the site gate to Barcelona, is one of the reasons we chose it and it was a real bonus. The beaches were good and we particularly liked Sitges as it was possible to park just yards from the beach and then stroll along the prom into town.

Once you are heading back you have a wide choice of routes so really depends if there are any places you would like to see,we saw Carcassonne on one trip so stopped there on the next, which one you take.

Re sites we use a mix of Camping Cheques, bought with a Brittany Ferries crossing through the club saving us £300 plus, and the ACSI card but will also be doing a couple of stops on sites that take neither but are convenient to our route.

We are in France mid May for a month so hoping we both get some great weather!
