Algarve Roundabouts

A little warning to anyone planning on using the N125. The police are currently having a purge on incorrect "lane discipline" at roundabouts. If a roundabout has a two lane entry and you are planning to go straight on at the roundabout you must be in the left hand of the two lanes, if you are in the right hand lane you must turn right. Our resident friends inform us that over 3,000 drivers have been stopped with some fined €80. We have seen the police doing this at several roundabouts east of Tavira.

Thanks for the info, but that really does sound a crazy 'rule' if you are towing a caravan.  I can imagine some really nasty situations - especially for anyone unfamiliar with the particular roundabout or even which exit they actually need to take.

Strange we live in Spain and it is the exact opposite, if going straight on right or left you have to be in the inside lane and go all the way round.

Joking aside though Sunday seems to be roundabout day here because there is always a Guardia Civil road block at one of the local roundabouts

Do they not have arrows painted on the road indicating what lane you should use?

No generally not - and yes it is a crazy rule - it was introduced on 1 Jan 2014 but for some reason the police have recently decided to enforce it.
