Venice to Austria via Belluno & Cortina?
Does anyone have any personal knowledge of how good the roads are to travel north from Venice to Austria this way with an 8m motorhome. Obviously the A27 motorway to Belluno will be very good but what about the S51 to Cortina D'Ampezzo and on from there to Dobbiaco Nuovo? I have used the east west road, S49, that it meets there so know it is a good road but have never travelled south from there.
If you have travelled east via Cortina towards Trieste it would be good to know what that route is like too.

Towed from Venice through Cortina and Bruneck to the Brenner Pass last June some of which was in heavy rain and had no issues. No particularily steep sections, road surface not the best in places and the width was only reduced in a few places, it was a Sunday so possibly not so much traffic as you might meet on a busy day. Bit of a slow trip and not what you would call a relaxing drive so if you are in a hurry the motorway via Verona will be a better bet.

Big thanks Tigi. I like to travel a different way back to going and try new routes as often as possible so such information is great. I will use it next year if not this one as I have just decided to go straight to Venice by the direct route & back via the Reissen Pass for a change.

The road from the Brenner Pass via Dobbiaco and Cortina to Belluno is fine for all vehicles. We've towed 8m caravans and 9M boat trailers on this route and its still our preferred route to the Adriatic coast in our 7.5M motorhome every year. The route via Verona and the A4 (Milan/Trieste) motorway may be a few minutes quicker but the motorway route is very busy and boring. The Dobbiaco/Cortina route by contrast has some wonderful scenery and there are no challenging climbs. Road surfaces are no worse than those in the UK and there are lots of stopping places on route. Its also an alternative route for Venice from the north, especially if you're intending to stay on the east side of the city in the Punta Sabbione area.
