Austrian Sites booking

Hi, I'm planning to visit Austria this year and wondered how busy the sites are during June and early July. Same old conundrum - to book ahead or busk it?

I've read through a lot of previous posts about Austria which have been very useful but can't  get a feel for how busy it is.

    Hi Barsar,

I'm sure you will get better responses than mine but I would say, if there is a site you really want to visit then book it in advance. That way you won't be disappointed.

Have a great time when you go.

We were in Austria in May and June last year so not really peak season. A couple of the sites we used near to Vienna were pretty full but others had plenty of room. Austria is very popular with the Dutch and Germans so sites from July onwards ( depending on school holidays) will get busy especially those near lakes and I would tend to agree with Tracy that if there was a site you really wanted to be on then book it. Where were you thinking of going?

We too will be in Austria/Croatia in June and do not plan to book sites.  The clue is in the ACSI book which shows that nearly all their sites in Austria offer their discount until 30 June.  However, the Germans have their Pentecost holiday the first two weeks in June this year so some sites in the more popular areas may be full.  The latest Club mag shows a site in Carinthia on Ossiasee (?) which looks attractive and you may feel happier booking through the Club rather than taking a chance.  Next year with the German holiday being earlier there should be no problem in Austria in June.

Barsar  We visit Austria every year for nearly two months from mid April to mid June and have been with the caravan for the last 13 years and going again April coming.,  Your best sites to stay at are ACSI Camping Card ones.  I only book the Sites where we wish to have a certain pitch, but others I always email or phone 2/3 days ahead.  June in Austria and Germany are busy with Bank/Saints Holidays. This June there is Whitsun June 4th/5th  June 15th Corpus Christi and June 21 is June Solstice. .

There are many lovely ACSI Sites on the Ossiachersee I can give you a route to Austria if you need it with Campsites en route.

Have a look here there is a page on Austria Country Info plus another on  Austrian Campsite Reviews.

If you have any questions please ask will be pleased to help.

Thanks for gently correcting my spelling of Ossiachersee Dianne.  Maybe see you in that area!

David, I'm planning on spending about 7 weeks there. We plan to set off in May.

Having been in Northern Croatia last year during Whitsun last year I well remember the sudden influx from Germany. So thanks for reminding me that this is something I need to take into account.

    Best wishes.

Thanks for your thoughts comeyras. We did Croatia last year and loved it. Here's a link to my blog which might be of some use to you.

As always I will have my ACSI CC guide with me. It looks like the CC validity ends on 30th June so that's when I need to head back home.
