Czech Republic
Part of our trip this year will include the eastern side of Austria with Vienna having some interest, but have also thought about travelling through part of the Czec Republic from eastern Germany to get there.
Anyone had recent experience of this country regarding sites, roads, tourism in general regarding caravanners etc. Thanks.

Took the van to CR for the passed 2 years and really enjoyed it. Never had any problems with the roads but make sure your sat nav is up to date. In 2015 we entered the country via Dresden most of it duel carriageway to Prague. Just after you pass Dresden there is a parking platz where you can buy your vignette. People are great, food and drink good value. I will come back with some campsites when I get back on my computer.

We were there as part of a 'Grand Tour' in 1976, but had to cross from West Germany in those days. We stayed on about half a dozen campsites, a one room 'apartment' in central Prague, visited a beautiful classical riverside house which had been taken from my friend's parents by the Russians, and they were still living there in one room in the cellar. We also stayed at a house in the forest with no electricity, wood heating, and very outside privy! We left after two and a half weeks, and went south from Prague into Austria.
Campsites then were very very basic, roads were good, border defences were strong and noticeable, but the people were wonderful. We were young then and had a fantastic time. I'm sorry that my experience isn't more relevant, but from our experience so long ago, then I would say go for it and you will enjoy it a lot.
My pen friend, who we stayed with, 'defected' to Italy a few years after our visit and now live in Vancouver in Canada and unfortunately we lost touch some years ago.

A few years ago we travelled to Trebon, near Ceske Budovice in the south, accessing via Linz in Austria. The roads were fine and the campsite akin to a larger CL but good enough for us. We then carried on across the southern part of the Czech Rep. and dropped into Austria north of Vienna. That was a lovely trip and the views as you dropped down into Austria were beautiful. We encountered no problems with roads or campsites.
The only problem we had was that we forgot CR wasn't in Schengen (not sure if it is now) and forgot to stop at crossing. We had to reverse caravan about 100 yards to checkpoint and irate, rifle wielding guard who took a bit longer checking our details. Anyway no harm done and we found the people friendly.
