Sevilla and Lisbon sites

We want to visit Sevilla in early June but are struggling to find a suitable site.

We have an 8m long motorhome which we understand would be very difficult on the site at Los Hermanos and in any case that site's reviews are mixed. Have tried Sevilla's tourist office but they only came up with aires, which we are not fond of.

I'm sure lots of C.C. members have visited Sevilla and would welcome feedback on where they stayed.

We also plan to visit Lisbon on the same trip and would welcome suggestions of clean, quiet sites from which the city centre can be reached via public transport.

Thank you for reading this and look forward to receiving suggestions.

There's not much else around Seville other than Los Hermanos! Its only plus is being able to bus into the city. For Lisbon we used the municipal to the north of the city, again a bus ride into the centre; however, this site seems to have been taken over and is now listed by ACSI as Camping Lisboa.

No visit to Lisbon is complete until you've been to the Tourist Police Office to report pickpocketing! surprised

    Thank you.

You look very cheerful despite the pick pocketing! Hope that means that Lisbon was, on balance, worth your visit.

Can't understand the paucity of good sites round Sevilla. We have found great sites near Madrid, Valencia and Granada so why is Sevilla so different?

    Seville

The aires in Seville are all privately owned and a easy walk into town and have surveillance camera's if you google AreasAutocaravanners  you can look for yourself would recommend the one at Avenida Garcia Morato. Have stopped at Camping Villsom at Dos Hermanos and thought it was fine for visiting the city but it was about five years ago and don't think you will have problems with size we had 7.5 at the time

    Lisbon

Stopped at the municipal site at Monsanto a very big site and expensive with it but excellent for visiting the city but we had meal in restaurant which was cheap and very good.

June is an excellent time to visit both Cities as all the Brits have gone home and the sites will be empty lol. Enjoy

Yes it was! We went back the next day to see more of the sites. The Portuguese are the most welcoming of hosts- and Catherine was quite taken with Officer Gomez, who was happy to have the photo taken.

Just be vigilent, as in any major city, and don't carry your rucksack on your back. We realized that Cath's had been dipped, and doubled back to wrestle purse and cards from the young couple who had bumped into us. They got away with 50€ but we were unhurt - hence the smiles.

Seville is a major industrial area and outside of the old city centre there's not much to admire. Once the unloading point for new world merchandise and gold, it lost out to Cadiz when the Guadalquivir silted up. It's still one of Europe's heritage sites which every visit to Andalusia should include.

We had intended to stay at Camping Villsom but chose the site in Donarrayan Park. This is a reasonable drive from Seville (but unsure about public transport as it is in the middle of a fantastic National Park with bike trails to the nearest village which may?)

The site had just been a member of the Yelloh  group and they were starting big improvements on a site in an idyllic (to us) location.

You are also close to the cowboy town of El Rocio which is an amazing time warp (hitching posts and all)

Google Seville camping and those and other sites appear.

Regarding Lisbon,(again, Google Lisbon camping) There is Lisboa Camping close to the city centre however we used the Orbitur Guincho. Again you would have to check as it was better for campervans than caravans as some of the pitches are a bit tight and won't cope with caravan, car and awning. Easy to get the train from Cascais and Lisbon was a great experience with thankfully no pickpocketing for us. The Bairo Alto was fantastic with the Fado music and sitting on the viewing point with a drink. We bought the Orbitur Passport which was a book of tickets giving great value (but not well advertised) Of their other sites we used, Caminha was the best for us.

Obviously your needs may be different but at least I've given you some other things to check.

Oh, and have you decided what you are doing about the nightmare that is the Portuguese Toll Motorway System...?

Entering Portugal from Seville (stop off at El Rocio for a couple of nights) you cross the Rio Guadiana. Just as you cross the border you come to the tourist office/ customs post where you will find toll machines which will read your number plate when you insert credit or debit card. It will print a receipt which records your details. You are then free to use the electronic toll systems, the tolls being deducted from your account.

Not all toll roads are electronic, and some use take a ticket and pay on exit.

...And the Lisbon bridges are run by a different company not connected to the other toll companies.

Both are impressive experience, Vasco Da Gama the most (to us)

I can second the comments by Deleted User User, in 2010 we traveled to the Algarve, using the motorway from Badajoz in Spain to Evora in Portugal. We tow with a Discovery, and we were charged as a HGV. We never used the Portuguese motorways again.  I believe the Portuguese aren't too keen on them either.
