Night temperature southern France

Hi

We are going further south this year than we have done before and booked for Camping Eurosol at Saint Giron Place in early August which is on the  West coast of France South of Royan.  We are a few hundred yards from the beach.  I was wondering if anyone had any experience of the night temperatures around that time, particularly around that area as last time we went to Limousin it was baking hot, whereas the Vendee was very cool at night.  Just trying to prepare as the new van won't have aircon....and I'm trying to decide whether to look at a portable unit.

Many thanks in anticipation

Normally you will be OK  but asking one of us to predict, six months ahead, whether there will be a heat wave next summer is a big ask.

You would possibly use this website which gives historical climate records (click for link) for a whole lot of places in France.  If you pick a place, then a year, then a month you can see the maximum and minimum temperatures displayed for each day during that month.  The nearest places appear to be Biscarosse or Biarritz so a look through both will give you an idea whether there are marked differences or not.  In Biscarosse in August 2016 the lowest minimum temperature in August was 12.7 degrees on the 11th August and the highest minimum temperature was 20.9 degrees on the 16th and 24th August.  2015 was broadly similar.

Biarritz, however, had one day when minimum temperatures were down to 6 degrees in August 2016, and in August 2015 down to 4 degrees.

So it rather looks as if air-conditioning is not likely to be needed - and perhaps an extra blanket might be more welcome!

Thank you for posting something which reminded me of that website.  I'm just going to look at Perpignan records for February, as we have a holiday home near there - and I want to know what night time temperatures we might expect this month in case we go back!

How long is a piece of string ? We now spend each summer in the Vendée and often have nights when the temperature doesn't fall below 25 C. I've also known evenings on the Côté d'Azur in August when I've worn a jumper and jeans!

We travel to France and Italy during the main holiday season and while it is on the warm side at night, we mage quite adequately with a couple of fans - one for us and one for our daughter at the other end of the van.  We also dispenser with the quilt and just use the quilt cover or a bed sheet.  The quilt comes out again when we get a bit further north.
