I am not sure if this has been asked before?   We intend to Travel to France again this year with our Motorhome , We have been the last three years in a Caravan . We know about the Aires Stopping at areas of Interest. Can anyone tell us what the Difference will be for us this year. We have looked at Ferry Crossing for around the same time as we normally go and it looks like the Price is more expensive with the Motorhome. . Plymouth to Roscoff .

Unfortunately you're right about the cost being more for a motorhome. The reason is that generally the discounts offered on the Brittany Ferries route are often 'caravans go free' - effectively meaning that caravanners get a 'car only' crossing, where you pay more for a longer motorhome!

Obviously you're familiar with campsites, and with Aires de Service Camping Car (there is a book available from Vicarious Books which lists them), so you now have a lot more choice.  There is also the France Passion scheme where motorhomers who are self-sufficient can stay for free on places like farms, vineyards, and food producers car parks (usually the idea is that you will buy some of whatever they produce).  You will get a lot of help from motorhome forums, but I personally don't know which one are considered the best ones to join.

I Deleted User a post last night because there were two threads by Arrivakids - one of them contained a post by Eurotraveller and the other didn't.  I posted my first reply in both posts, then saw that Eurotraveller's post had disappeared so I reposted it as a quote - then saw that it appeared to have re-appeared by itself.  Now it's  disappeared from both posts again so I am posting it here - and I'd like to bet that it also appears in the second post as well.  Another very odd post which is behaving strangely!

    Here's the quote:

Are you going to Brittany again? You will have far more choice of overnight stops with the Motorhome than you had last year with the caravan.

I see motorhomers sleeping on the seafront road at St Pol de Leon, on remote clifftops without facilities at all the headlands out to Cap Sizun, in the beach car park down at Pors Peron, and in town centre car parks like the one under the viaduct at Dinan. Some campsites have cut price, but cramped,  motorhome parking areas at the entrance - like the one at La Roche Bernard, and some campsites  like the one at Vannes have public transport, but that is pretty rare in Brittany.

Many campsites are best if you are taking bikes. But where are you making for?

Beats me why people who find they have accidentally posted three times just walk away and leave them - instead of sighing or swearing and deleting two surplus ones straightaway themselves.

I must admit I am not sure what has happened here. Last night I tried to lock the least used thread but for some reason it locked the other one!!! Today I have locked the other thread and perhaps we can carry on the discussion here. I am reluctant to delete either thread just in case both disappear!!!

It's not quite as simple as a duplicated post - somehow the two are interlocked and posts appear in either one, the other, or even both, depending on which way you access them - or which device you use!   I found that clicking the date of the last post seems to make sure you get to this thread, rather than 'the other' which is locked.

Here is the missing post from Bolero Boy which add useful information to this thread -

Bolero Boy - good posts above, the best MH forums are probably Outandaboutlive (MMM magazine forum), motorhomefun and motorhomefacts.

we have friends who use the FRance Passion scheme and think its reall great....stying in the countryside in a vinyard or farm....

the aires network is a wonderful thing, some popular ones are charging a bit more in the past few years, but still loads of free stops all over europe....France is regarded as MH heaven.....

Have the CC Forums been taken over by Magic Mushroom users?

    It's a disaster.

We too switched from caravan to motorhome last year. You will find journey times faster and easier travelling when not towing. Just need to plan sites more carefully for local transport etc. Would recommend Hull Zeebrugge crossing from Lancashire far easier than haul to south coast. We did this last May then drove down to near Giverney from Zeebrugge far better roads than over here and more interesting. Journey time was a comfortable 5 hours with stops 213 miles.
