I'd take about 25 degrees and sunny with relatively low humidity over that any day Malcolm. Unfortunately we don't get enough of those sort of days in this country.
Cold damp walk around Clumber Lake. Good exercise but weather 👎Car was showing 3 degrees on the way back. We were going to use the cafe for lunch, but there was a queue, and for some reason at Clumber service moves at a snails pace, compared to other NT establishments.

Now that's a surprise!!
Enjoy.

Lovely sunny day here for a change, but still bitterly cold. Clear skies so going to be freezing tonight.
Finally got our Aldi delivery, after 3 days, Yodel are not great at delivering when they say they will!
DD rang to say her car is losing coolant, so that will be me booking it into the garage on Monday, taking it over there, and using my bus pass to get home. Later she brought it here and "borrowed" the Smart.
Some shopping in the afternoon, used some of our vouchers, lots of cars finding the car parks treacherous, thank goodness for 4 wheel drive!

A few years after my wife's death I decided that I would swap my home for my eldest daughter's before retirement.. My detached bungalow was worth about twice her semi. WE had done a lot of work there and the garden was very low maintenance. I intended then to leave work at 53 and hit the road. Probably spending 2 or 3 months at that house.
I wanted to retain a house. However things changed when I became friends with Fliss and then an item.

Sitting in a relaxer in your back garden is not the same, H&T. You don't get to see and meet other people and hear their stories unless you're on a site.

We paid a total of £28000 to buy our caravan including all the extras such as aircon. It has given us a home to live in ever since June 2015. That will be 3 years by this summer. So I think we have had very good value for money out of that and although there will be some depreciation, it's still worth quite a bit, I would think. Perhaps you could check and see what the second hand value of a Bailey Unicorn Cartagena 2015 model is. Even if it has depreciated £10,000, it has provided us with year round accommodation for a cost of just over £3300 per year. To me, that seems excellent value for money compared to paying rent for a property at approximately £600 per month with bills on top!

Yes, Oneputt but not to live in! I would not get good value for money out of the caravan if it was sitting on the driveway unused for most of the time!
Two cars are necessary because of my job as I have to provide my own car to do it. The Shogun is needed as a tow car, the Smart car is needed for the delivery work because of its small size, ease of parking and ease of manoeuvrability, lower running costs etc.

Did you forget to add in pitch fees over the last 3 years? Were they under £4,000 per year?

Really hard frost last night, temperature is still show -2C. Face is swollen with left eye nearly closed so won't be going anywhere today. We still use hand me down furniture including Uncle Walters chair which must be 150 years old. As the advert says 'every little helps'

We still have our tent, cariadon. We spent three months living in it whilst we waited for delivery of the caravan from March 2015 to June 2015. So if the caravan was out of use because of damp, we could easily manage one week in the tent!
We don't need residential accommodation, cariadon. I'm semi-retired. I only work part-time, plus living on a pension so that I'm permanently at leisure in my caravan! Work simply gives me a little extra pin money on top of my pension.

Its like that song, JVB66, that goes: 'whatever will be, will be, the future's not ours to see.'

Yes, we are lucky in that respect, H&T. However, others who adopt this lifestyle do seem to find a way! 'Where there's a will, there's a way!'

A week would not be bad, except in winter.⛄️ However, some damp repairs take months. It's not as if any insurance is going to pick up your accommodation costs. I'm not even sure they would if the van was damaged in an accident between sites, and we have all read on here about the time taken for that sort of damage.

Yes but I'm getting service for that money, EasyT. I get electricity supply, water, waste disposal etc. etc. If I lived in a house I would get bills for all this!

That's another good reason for living in a caravan, Kj. You can easily move to where the weather suits you!

Malcolm, we see and meet lots of people at home, neighbours, friends, family do you really think we only see and talk to people on a caravan site?

That's much more debt, Kj than I have at the moment and that too at a time when the debt was a lot higher in relation to income! People seem to forget that having a mortgage gets them into a huge amount of debt!

So sorry to hear about your face OP. I do hope it improves soon. You are having a rough time at the moment.

A mortgage is a debt but can also be seen as an investment. Once a mortgage is paid usually after 25 years, then it is no longer a dept.
I can sit in my garden on a relaxer, hammock, patio set and enjoy a barbecue or party with my neighbours, and get invited to their garden etc.
When you compare costs you forgot to add the cost of buying and running the shogun, which you must have in order to move your home every how many days you have to.
You mentioned to Kj that you can move when the weather suits you, not so easy if you are on a seasonal pitch.
You love living in your caravan on a club site, we love holidaying In ours.
