    David

That is interesting and sort of backs up what the surgeon said to me. He did reassure me that I am not in any physical danger from the joint by not having it replaced but he has left the door open if it worsens and I suppose you get to the point where anything is better than the status quo.

Have you had a hip replaced before? If not it usually brings immediate relief from pain and I noticed a massive difference in quality of life so you should notice a positive difference. Recovery is usually a lot quicker compared to a knee. Good luck with that.

Dull but not raining at Ferry Meadows today.

Thanks MH and WTG, looking forward to exploring the city this time, coffee sounds nice smile

OH not a happy bunny this morning, just realised he has left the head bit of his extended cleaning thingy at the CL we have just left. Only found out when he decided he was going to give the car windows a clean before we go out, he's got the pole bit but no shaggy head cloth that goes on it now (he used it then left it out to dry). I'm not happy either as its mine he borrowed, because he left his one at home yell one of these days he WILL remember to check before he leaves, he's a flipping nightmare, then he gets all grumpy. He's always telling the kids and gkids off for not looking after things, dare I remind him of that undecided

Anyone know why this thread has now got a duplicate one running in the "Ask the Experts"  I've noticed this happening on a couple of other threads as well

Now on the bus back to Glasgow.  Passport application successfully lodged, just have to wait for it to arrive in the post.

I was somewhat taken aback to be told at the embassy that I have been stateless since 2012, despite holding a valid Norwegian passport.  surprised

Something to do with not having actually lived in Norway for a while, you would think they would let you know about something like that!

Now looking into the exact rules to see what I need to do, if anything, in the future.

Just booked the Dover/Calais ferry for Friday.  Going to try and find somewhere warmer for a couple of weeks or so.  Not sure where yet.

Strange its changed to something else now.

Even stranger its changed back to this post now, has anyone noticed this before, it appears every time someone posts it duplicates it in the "Ask the Experts" bit.

Making  good progress, well past Milton Keynes already.  Seat is very comfortable.  The bunk last night was quite firm, but I did sleep most of the way.

Update e mail from Norwegian Embassy.....

My passport will take longer than usual to be issued but they have tracked down the problem, it's not really anything to do with having been out of the country too long.

Norway has a Folkeregister to keep track of everyone and when you move house, or country, you need to tell them.  I did this correctly, but apparently when they got a new computer system in 2012 the records of those who moved abroad between 1969 and 1972 were not migrated correctly and they "lost" me.

This only comes to light if you apply for a new passport or tell them you have moved again.  We have lived at the same address since 1988, and my passport dates from 2007, so I fell through all the cracks.

I had to give my parents full names and date and place of birth to prove they were my parents, and they have now managed to trace my records.

I find this very strange since I receive a pension from Norway, and have a Tax record there, which are both linked to my personal ID number in the Folkeregister, so you would think they might have noticed that something was wrong before now.

I wonder how many citizens they have managed to "lose"!

After a glorious, but cold, day yesterday we are back to horrible wind and rain. And I don't  even know how much rain! The rain gauge on our weather station has gone a bit dolally. Since just before Christmas it has been reporting excessive amounts of rain - up to 20+ inches a day. Googling the problem it may be that damp has got into the reed switch that controls the tipping mechanism. But as it's on top of a pole on top of a steep wet hill, the weather needs to improve considerably so we can get up there with the telehandler. Normally (after transmitting to the console and thence to the computer) it uploads the data to various websites, including our own. But avoid confusion and the building of Arks, I've stopped the upload.

Getting UK citizenship would cost me £1100 plus, probably gone up since I last looked, and all that would do that I cannot do now is entitle me to vote.    After being here for 47 years, I do not think I would bother now.

Plus, Norway does not generally allow dual nationality, so I would have to hand in my Norwegian passport.

Bus should be in  Glasgow at 22.30, but we have had some hold ups on the M1, and now stuck in traffic in Manchester so looks like we will be at least an hour late in arriving.  DD is picking me up in town and delivering me home as OH does not like driving in the dark.

Looking like we will be 90 minutes late arriving, unless the driver puts his foot down further north.  We still have to stop at Lancaster Campus.

Will be late for DD, and she has to be up at 7 tomorrow for work.  I will suggeat that OH braves the dark and meets me at DD's house, which is about halfway between town and our house, save her about 20 minutes.

Glad your son has found another house to rent Helen. Fingers crossed for his house and his new job.

Another shift in the Visitor Centre this morning. Much busier than last week so really interesting and good fun. Also a school party with their teacher. They were all really polite nice children.

I fell off my chair laughing!

There I was waiting for my car to be MOT'd and an elderly gent came into the garage, well agitated - he could hear an unusual noise whilst driving his car and could it be investigated?

Manager went out for a drive with him and that was the last I saw of the gent.

The noise was caused by a nodding meerkat on his dashboard.laughing

Things are looking up now.  Once we got out of Manchester the roads were much less crowded so we have made very good progress.  Looks like we will be in Glasgow before 11, so DD will just take me straight home.  OH will be relieved!

I think CT is now a secondary or thirdary (OK, not a word) forum now, it's problems have probably driven quite a few away to other places a lot 'greener' wink For those of us not too bothered, it's just one we use amongst others, like your good self smile

I'm on the verge of jumping ship as well. I had a quick look at Caravan Chat yesterday and see quite a few 'exiles' there. A preliminary examination suggests that there is just a straight list of topics rather than organised in sections which doesn't seem very useful. Can anyone familiar with it reassure me as to its usability?
