What are you all up to

It’s our monthly weekend off, so after a late breakfast we headed off to the caravan (parked up in the first field off the yard). We’re planning on going “away” on our next weekend off - only down the fields - so need to be self sufficient. Our 2005 Bailey Senator Louisiana is not as equipped as modern vans (but we like it and it will probably “see us out”). I always wondered what the funny little sockets with slots for two prongs were for , and now I know - 12 volt! With the convenience of Amazon, we now have converters to cigar type sockets for the two of them, plus a new USB socket very neatly installed by OH. So we can charge all our devices. And the battery won’t run down as we’ve invested in a suitcase type solar power thingy. Apparently it will also come in useful for charging the little digger if we leave it down the fields.
A light cheese and wine lunch and we’re ready for a sit down.
Then later I will be cooking a very posh supper from a kit from a Michelin starred chef. It’s supposed to be easy, but reading the instructions it seems to use an awful lot of pans, and says things like “set oven to temperature nnn “ - when our Aga has only one temperature, unless you turn it up the day before.

Sounds lovely Goldie, the updated van, and the meal. I enjoyed my time with that Aga we used in Norfolk, but left thinking I still relied far too much on guess work than anything else. You have given us food for thought with our old van, a fold away solar panel might be a good idea.

I keep reading everyone getting their caravans and contents sorted for the get away.Every year we bring a few 'soft' items, bedding etc home from the static for washing and to stop them getting damp, other than that it's just move back in. However, last year we updated to a new used van. At the end of last season we packed up soo many boxes, can't believe how much we have accumulated. The site moved our belongings over during lockdown. When we return we have to take a car load, unpack a room full of boxes and collect breakable items which we left with our neighbours. The new van just doesn't have half as much storage so it could be a challenge. All we managed to cull were a few items from the shed. Going to be a busy time but at least the site will clean the van and the new decking.

It was lovely early on this morning. We decided not to make a mad dash for the seaside, given our new found freedom starts today, as we thought there might be one or two others who had the same idea. So it's back to the old routine until the populace gets rid of its pent up frustration but before you lot over the border invade again.

Plenty of normal Saturday exercisers out and about, more cyclists at weekend.
Did a bit of work on the caravan and moved it a tad to help the wheels.
Ordered an 8 tread ladder to help with accessing the roof area for cleaning. I feel a bit better knowing Mrs WN will be safer on it now.

Enjoy the caravanning Goldie. You'll be making a lot of people very jealous.

I have never been the the JL store in Exeter but looking at these pictures it looks like a fairly standard JL store. What you can't tell is the size and what parts of the assortment, if any, are missing. It seems to have a nice cafe which is generally the first place I head for!!!

I like Exeter but it's not the easiest place to get into, park and ride or train for us if we go, so we rarely make a visit.
I've had a long chat with a friend on Orkney today, they live in a remote spot but are still nervous about going out! They've had very little opportunity to leave the islands but have had Tesco deliveries to keep them going. I've got family on Sark, I think I'd have felt very trapped there.

I like Exeter, interesting city. Love the castle area, and down by the river. We are fans of Bernard Knight’s Crowner John books, so find the locations interesting. Fabulous Cathedral, Cloisters Cafe is very nice.

Beautiful sunny morning but a very chilly breeze. I washed our bedding and got it and the towels dry outside. When I changed our bedding I swapped our winter duvet to our lighter weight one. OH not happy 😳. Planted my sweet pea seeds while OH planted out our sunflower plants grown from seed. Not so sunny this afternoon. I am looking forward to the better weather next week 🌞😎.
Good to hear that the new little family are doing OK Bakers2. I always think the first 6 weeks are so hard for new parents but they seem to thrive on their love for the baby and the excitement.
Don't forget that the clocks spring forward tonight 🕰

I used to work there now and again, mostly in an office by the river. Lovely spot but manic traffic!

Never had a wander around Exeter, but must do sometime, but perhaps not this year as I guess, like most cities it will be busy for most of the year while people get used to the new normal, should it ever arrive.
Won't say what we did today as I don't want a visit from the boys in blue
However we did seek out a slave's grave, and came home with a bag of goodies.0 -

We use a 4.5 duvet all year! In the caravan the 10 tog comes out (occasionally) for Spring/Autumn depending on the forecast. At home if it’s chilly we just add a throw. We must have a hot house!!
Hope the sweet peas do well Millie, they are my favourite flower, but I never have any luck with growing them. 🥲

Oh No Milliehull, not here, not til the end of May 15 tog feather duvet til then and then 4.5 with a blanket if necessary. Along with spare rooms winter/summer swaps and extra duvets for two extra pull out beds and more swaps for the static van our loft seems full of squeeze down bags with duvets in!

We keep discussing whether to change to our lighter summer duvet but haven't been brave enough to swap yet. In the past we have tended to sleep with the window closed but during the last year we have had it open on the notch all year, even in winter. So there are times when you need to snuggle down under the duvet if the wind howls in!!!

I'm gradually switching over to wool duvets from Devon, we only seem to need the lighter weight ones, I've totally gone off down ones. I took the wool one away in the van last time and it was just right, our soft cotton sleeping bags have lasted well but are wearing thin now so everything is gradually being replaced. The lightweight wool duvet seems to be good all year round.
This morning we went out for a walk and every single person we met was a newcomer to the village. It's getting a bit disconcerting, we've had four changes of neighbour one side, a holiday cottage the other and now lots of new people who've never experienced the social side of life here due to lockdown. More changes to come when our elderly neighbours eventually move and the house next to them too.

A warm 22C here and looks like Tuesday could be upto 26C phew a bit to warm for this time of year. Had a short drive and found a spot for a picnic lunch with views all the way round very nice.
10 tog duvet here I feel the cold more than OH he could cope with 4.5 tog all year round, may change next month, interested in your wool duvets brue whereabouts in Devon do you get them from? friends of ours have 15.5 tog for most of the year yikes a bit to warm for me.
No near neighbours here 3 houses at least two fields away and we have fields around us with horses in, 2 Arab mares ready to give birth fairly soon and looking very sorry for themselves and uncomfortable.

Plenty to keep us awake last night what with the trees in the woods behind us and neighbouring bins rattling around. Should sleep well tonight.
Doesn't matter what duvet I put on. After 4-5 hours I'm roasting. Doesn't matter if I'm freezing when I get in or what the weather is doing outside. Have been having the male Menopause now for the last 30 years! Fortunately it's just a dry heat.
Just had a peek outside the window after hearing the commotion the local thugs are making. Sparrows!! Bathtime always around this time of day. They never seem to come by themselves but bring their mates with them. They're all sitting on the Berberis drying off now.
Wonder what Burke and Hare were up to yesterday.

Ah, I think I might know where you were? Not far from Lancaster? Featured on a very interesting TV programme. End of River Lune?
I got nobbled by The Plods last week. Three miles from home, not our local ones but Notts Constabulary. They were have a money making day, taking no prisoners. Nothing to do with breaching local lockdown. Apparently I didn’t slow down early enough going into a thirty zone and was clocked at 33mph. So that’s my three decade plus halo trashed🤷♀️ Very annoyed with myself.

we have got this starting tomorrow just when we will have been partially let out of prison, just checked the BBQ , having a family bash on Easter Sunday

had this when we lived in Scotland, not horses, loads of sheep and we could see the Grampian mountain range from the lounge window, loved it but so cold during the winter months and lucky if you got 8 hrs of daylight this time of year, great during the Summer though, never really dark
