Plymouth - Roscoff ferry crossing with dog

Hi there, we're taking our dog to France on Brittany Ferries and weren't able to get a kennel.  Can anyone advise if they allow you to walk the dog during the sailing or does he have to stay in the car for the whole of the journey?
