Older caravans and damp, am I being too fussy?

So, we're still looking to replace our '98 Ranger that got vandalised by low life scum.
It was a solid 'van that always remained damp free when tested. Had never been re-sealed or had work and no softwalls at all.
We thought this would be the norm and finding a replacement in similar condition would be easy.
However! Having viewed SEVERAL caravans now, some newer, some older. We're finding they all have soft wall issues, some worse than others. Or mould/damp patches.
Are we being too fussy? Were we spoilt with our Ranger? Is it really that common?
We can deal with broken catches, faulty appliances etc etc. But don't want to have a 'van that needs major surgery.
Just hoping for some imput from other experienced 'vanners.
Thanks
