Re-programming immobiliser keys!

I recently had to have my Eldiss Autoquest (Peugeot Boxer) taken to the garage by Green Flag where the garage put a new battery on and re-prgrammed the immobiliser keys. This cost £490, £105 for the new battery,£65 labour costs plus VAT. What do they actually
do to re-programme keys that costs so much?

    That seems excessive. A complete new key & programmed to the car from Mercedes is 'only' £225 so no idea how they've arrived at what you were charged if they were just re-programming your original keys. I can't say for PSA vehicles, but on a Vauxhall something
    catastrophic must've happened for both keys to lose programming, with most immobiliser problems, a simple resynchronisation is all that's needed ... & the owner can do that

    We got a new car key/immobiliser programmed by a local key copier.  It cost very little, and certainly nothing like the above costs.  There is even a vidoe on Youtube of how to do it yourself, or  you can buy a 'gadget'.

    I can only imagine that this is yet another exaple of caravanners and motorhome owners putting up with expensive service items which can be had elsewhere for much less.

    I would question why the keys had to be re programmed ?  If it was a new battery swap, there should be no need to make any alterations to anything. Keys, ECU, etc,

    (Unless I am missing something ?)
