Noise - how bad is it really?

At the risk of starting another caravan v motorhome debate, I would like to ask about noise level only. We are teetering on the edge of switching to a motorhome after many years of caravanning and weighing up all the pros and cons, but the noise issue
is the one thing that is putting me off after some of the things I've read on this forum - ear plugs! I fully understand that a motorhome generally will not be as smooth and quiet as our car (Volvo XC70) but it's all the rattling I read about and the lengths
folk go to to minimise it. So - how bad is it - really?
