There as an old guy on an electric buggy doing 8 mph on the A38 dual carriageway the other day with traffic flying round him.  He'd get stopped on a club site.

The speed limit applies to all vehicles, including cycles on CC sites so he would be breaking the 5mph rule.

He was initially travelling in the wrong direction on the dual carriageway, was seen on camera and subsequently stopped by the police and taken to a place of safety.

Laughing  True but he would probably have been over taken by a few wardens on their tractor before he was stopped Wink.

But  that's  caused  by  the  speed  the  grass  grows  at  --  due  of  course  to  it's  loving  treatment  by  all  users

If you take part in a sport you accept that the referee's decision  is final, even though, on occasion you may not agree with it. In the same way I am happy for the warden to referee speed on their site, and they should be given our full support in this
endeavour. When we arrived at our current site we were advised at check in of the speed limit, walking pace. So far I have seen more doing a jog, than the number doing the correct speed.

Club sites obviously need more speed bumps, average speed cameras, and a system of fines and penalty points for offenders. I shall continue to go elsewhere where there are not such dangerous people on site. Club sites sound far too risky for me. Smile

Wow , when I started this thread I wasn't expecting such a response, but it's good to see such a lively discussion on a serious subject . Thank you one and all.

Whilst it's good to see wardens doing something about speeding I can't understand why they don't just walk up to the offender and have a word in their ear to the effect that they'll be asked to leave site next time they're caught speeding. Why go to the
trouble of keeping a name and shame board? You're assuming the miscreant will be shamed. They may not give a damn.

It may be they do speak to the offenders first or they cannot as they disappear in a cloud of smoke. At least it is an attempt but to me the removal of the barrier key would be the most effective.

    I agree.

They must see these speeding drivers to get their registration. So why not just flag them down and have a word with them.

It's good that the wardens on this site are at least doing something, but it still smacks slightly of avoiding direct conflict.

They are site managers......they must be seen to manage.

By the sounds of it the Wardens, are managing the site by the Reg Number being "published ",it will also advise those who are more likely to moan about speeding,  but as mostly happens, do nothing, except put a poor review or come on here moaning that wardens "never try to uphold site rules",and it has yet to be established the "method " of why it is published?

rather than some convoluted 'name on a board'....why dont wardens (like the local Bobby) just have a quiet, but firm, word with any offenders and tell them that their speeding has been noted....Happy

should the warden have cause to speak to them again, they will be asked to leave the site and their details forwarded to EG for 'sentencing'.... Sad

Quite exceptionally last year we did 26 nights on CC Ltd sites and I did not see one vehicle driving without due care.  Almost invariably any problems I have seen were caused by other campers being nosy, interfering and acting as self-appointed keepers of
the “rules” that they really don’t know and make up or twist to suit the occasion and fit whatever has upset them personally.

One example that sticks in my mind was a man and his wife ranting and screeching at the driver of a large RV very slowly driving to his allocated pitch the wrong way around the one way system.  Quite sensibly the warden had suggested he do so as it was the
shortest and least difficult route to the pitch.  The warden saw the confrontation and tried to explain his decision to them but received a mass of abuse and threats of being reported for his trouble.

..It takes all sorts ,desrecion does not always work, when some insist on the rules being upheldWink

We spend in the order of 100 nights and if exercising due care is defined as driving responsibly at 5 mph, then we see a vast number of violations. It is not unusual to see speeds of in excess of 10 mph, often with the van attached.

I don't think it's a good idea, I wouldn't mind betting that one or two might get irate with the wardens and deny they did anything wrong. Don't know what the answer is except a few more visible (and friendly) walks around the site by the wardens.
