How busy is the NEC?

I am thinking of going to the NEC for the first time, but a colleague tells me that Saturday and Sunday are too busy and unless you can go during the weekdays, it's not worth it. 

We can only go at the weekend. What are your views. Can you get to look round things at the weekend or is it just rammed?
