Our second European trip in twenty years
My wife and I are touring in Europe with our caravan for only the second time, and the last time was twenty years ago. We will be spending a month away in total.
We would like to see some of the picturesque parts of the Rhine Valley and also plan to spend a couple of days visiting friends in Munich on our way to Lake Maggiore where we will spend 1 or 2 weeks.
Currently I am planning the route off Google maps so if the road numbers are incorrect I apologise. Please feel free to put me straight. Although I will have sat nav any suggestions for the best road atlas to buy will be great.
Our first attempt at a route
Arriving at Dunkirk we intend to head towards Ostende and then take the E40 towards Aachen & Cologne. From Cologne we intend taking the A61 towards Hockenheim and then the A5 towards Karlsruhe followed by the
E52, E43,E54 towards Munich.
Is this route OK for exploring this area of the Rhine Valley or can someone suggest a better route. Can people suggest places to stop that will break the journey into manageable bites.
Once we leave Munich we appear to have a choice of going via Switzerland or down through Austria.
Which route would people recommend in terms of scenery and cost.
Finally, for now, any recommendations for scenic, not too busy sites around Lake Maggiore.
Thanks in anticipation for your help
