Caravan loading controversy

We had the spare bunk from across the back of our Bailey Olympus removed to reduce the weight of the van which, if loaded to the MTPLM would be about 90% of the car weight. My husband insists that it's OK to put items like the folding seats right at the
back of the van to compensate for the weight of this bunk. I, the driver, say all the books tell you not to put any heavy items at the back. Who is right?
