First of all I’d like to thank you for your replies to my post about CL type sites near the beach in France. They have been really helpful and you were absolutely right about our preference
for small sites.
Although we have been to France quite a lot in the past, we have only been twice in our ‘van and would appreciate it if we could piggy back on your experience.
We are planning a two week trip at the end of September with the aim of spending a few days heading south with 2 or 3 stops, spending about a week on the Cote D’Azur before setting off for
home with a couple of stops en route. We'd like to avoid the autoroutes/peage where possible. Our rough itinerary is:
Early morning ferry Dover to Calais
Calais to Tours, or nearby, about 5 hour drive
Tours to Cahors a drive of about 4 ½ hours
Cahors to Carcassonne, driving for about 2 ½ hours
Carcassonne to Mende for the Tarn Gorge, about 3 hour drive
Mende to the Cote D’Azur – exact location to be decided, but a smallish site near the beach!
We shall return home up the east side of France with a couple of stops on the way.
Is this trip feasible? Nothing is set in stone except for wanting to see the Tarn Gorge, so any suggestions or comments welcome. .
Site facilities aren't too important to us.We are pretty self-sufficient in our motorhome, we only really need to be able to fill up with water and to dump our grey and chemical waste. Electric
hook up is nice, but not absolutely necessary for one or two nights. Views and location are what we like!
Of course if anyone else has anything to add we’d be glad to hear it!
Thanks once again
