Rock Steady Towing Mirrors

Just bought a pair of these and now feel like a complete thickie! two questions - (i) which side do you use the convex mirror on and which side the flat (ii) do people usually use them with the straps as well as the fixing screws and if so how do the straps
attach to the clip at the bottom of the mirror? (See what I mean about feeling thick!)

Any advice gratefully received!
