Use of Fire Pits on site.

Last year, I drove down to Dorset to join my daughter and SIL on a week's camp near to West Bay. Very enjoyable it was too. It was as the night came and the temperature dropped that I missed my caravan! It was a commercial site and most of the campers, even
though there were yards of nylon and canvas,  had fire pits which were ablaze each evening whilst their owners enjoyed the warmth and light from the burning logs. We didn't have one and a very slight twinge of envy flickered now and again. I am almost sure
that CC sites would not allow the use of them but I am equally sure that some, perhaps most CLs would allow them to be used safely. Does anyone have first hand experience of this?
