Caravan carpets, yes or no ?

Caravan manufacturers all seem to put carpet mats in their models, however are they ideal? To me it seems a poor choice, the only advantage seems to be warmth. When we bought a new van the carpets still had the protective plastic on them, so we've left it
on and it works well. I do think they could come up with a better alternative though.
