Touring to the Ardeche-all advice greatly received

Hi all! We are a young family taking our caravan to France for the first time! We've set our hearts on going to the South Ardeche region (around Montelimar) but I'm being a tad on the cautious side - much to my husbands disapproval! Any advice anyone can
give about travelling there, including recommended sites on the way down from Calais, would be very greatly received!
