Why is Poolsbrook CC site (Derbyshire) so popular

As someone who lives in the area I can't see the appeal of the Poolsbrook site but it has a very high Caravan and Motorhome occupancy even out of season.

Neither Poolsbrook village or the nearby town of Staveley seem worth a visit with few shops and even less eating establishments and very little in cultural or visual terms.

I know the site is only about a mile from the M1 and many going down South or up't North will appreciate it for an easy one night stop but there seem to be many who stay for a week, two or more.

What do you find to do or see in that time?

Earlier this year we moved house, our furniture went into storage, the builders moved in and we stayed mainly in a Motorhome on the Poolsbrook site for around 10 weeks in February, March and April while the building work was done.

The site is well run, tidy and has adequate facilities and we had no complaints about the site or Staff.

The Trans Pennine trail in close by for walking and cycling, the lake is a pleasure to walk around and see all the wildlife, there are some child friendly play apparatus but very little else for a week or fortnight holiday.

So, can any one tell me what is the lure to the site?

This isn't a moan or a gripe but just a general enquiry of interest.

Not everyone who goes to Poolsbrook goes to look in shops or to find places to eat, we have visited twice and it takes us 11minutes from door to door. So why do we bother, we like walking, fishing and just the peace and quiet of the place, if we want to eat I cook and the shops have most of the things I might run out of ie milk and beer.

A club site popular? well that will be news to some on here!

I suppose because it's on your doorstep you don't find it so appealing? We have Durham Grange site literally only 10 minutes drive and we've only stayed on it when testing a new caravan or awning for one or two nights. Likewise it is a popular site and looked as if the other campers were there for much longer, but we can't think why anyone would want to stay there that long but that's due to the fact we know the area so well?

Not a site we have ever visited, and in all honesty unlikely to, but it is slap bang in the middle of two very large urban populations, Sheffield and Derby. So has a very large clientele base close by, with easy access for frequent visits, and possibly  a "working break" if members choose to commute. Some interesting places to see and visit close by as well. If it has some pleasant walking and cycling and space for children to play as well, could be a nice easy break for families, much as Ferry Meadows is for the Peterborough area, and Yellowcraig is for the Edinburgh area.

    Just my own thoughts.

We've stayed at Poolsbrook for about 4 nights, we went to Hardwick hall one day, Chesterfield another can't remember what else but we did go out every day. Its a nice site now the planting has matured, as you say handy for stopovers etc.

We also use Durham as a stopover, having spent a few days the first time to look around Durham, and recently to pick up a trailer that we had made at Hedleys.

Both of these sites are mostly H/S and open all yearSmile I will say no more.

Cos Chatsworth is always full on frenzy day? Tongue Out

We are booked into Chatsworth start of school summer holidays, super serviced pitch at the highest price we have paid for a pitch £40+ per night.

We are visiting family, but next time will look at Poolsbrook. Thanks for the heads up.

We  have visited this site several times and love it.  Not too from where live, plenty of walks, convenient for a day out in derbyshire and national trust properties. Great

Very good question K&M  i have been once just to see what it was like and what it had to offer. If you ignore the commercial siting of the ccp then as a site it is not bad clean, tidy well kept, plenty of walking to be had both from the site and further afield,
the fishing lakes and areas are attractive and good for a peacfull picnic or perhaps an energetic walk. Or in your own wordsd

(The site is well run, tidy and has adequate facilities and we had no complaints about the site or Staff.

As for the shops i tend to go away for walks and other outdoor activities not shopping, So to me it is a suitable little site, for my needs, even better off peak and out of school holidays when it is even quiter(as they say each
    to their own)

P.s. Happy camping wherever you go

We have stayed at Poolsbrook a couple of times, the site itself is ok, a bit clinical though, is how I would describe it. We love thd area  and there is lots to do.. It was even almost full when we went in March . I will admit I really appreciated the underfloor
heating in the showers,  very welcome as it was cold and wet.

All of the above and it's great for dogs too.  Straight out of the gate and miles of paths for walking and cycling and NT properties to visit.

We live just under an hour away (towing) and its probably our most visited site. We use it for weekends because its an easy run there, lots of walks and cycle rides off site and if we go for a weekend we are going to chill and relax not explore.

It has got better as a site as the trees and bushes have matured but yes, it is a bit clinical still.  It has new wardens this year - some things have changed not for the better, and the toilets last time werent as clean but that might just have been a one
off.  We will probably still continue to visit it regularly.  We use Blackwall (Carsington) but its not as easy to get to, done Chatsworth once and not fussed and tried the Firs but no dog walks directly off site so Poolsbrook fits the bill for us.  Staveley
is a dump but that doesnt really worry us.

I'm  like  some  of  the  other  posters, --> I  use  Poolsbrook  purely  as  a  base  from  which  I  can  visit  places  I  want  to  get  to,  but  may  not  be  so  convenient  !  I'm  off  there  on  23rd ( Only  eight  sleeps  whoopee  !! )  and  will  see  how  its  changed  since  I  was  first  there.  I  seem  to  recall  finding  an  accessory  dealer  somewhere  close  but  I  have  had  a  snooze  or  twenty  since  then  !

There is indeed a quite good accessory/awning place not far away which is always useful to have.

could the accessory shop be Renishaw Awnings at Clay Cross, its a well stocked place situated almost on the cross roads with the big supermarket ( Tesco, I think) diagonally across from it. If it is the one I can honestly say
I've never seen a shop with so much crammed into it, we went to look at awnings and you have to go in and out of the display ones to get around the place.

That  sounds  like  Harringtons  at  Delamere,   used  to  be  before  it  was  sold  and  then  went  belly  up

We happen to like Poolsbrook. We like to go to Chesterfield and our grandchildren like the play area down in the Country Park, which is also a nice walk around the lake. The shower block is nice and the site in general is very clean and well maintained.
It is also open all year now. The only downside really is the entrance past the industrial area, but that's all.

It is also handy if you want to play trains at Barrow Hill.
