Health Insurance in Republic of Ireland

We are thinking of touring in the Republic of Ireland this summer and wonder if it is necessary to take out health insurance over and above the EHIC as would be the case say in France.  We have read the Health Service Ireland web page and we think it says
we don't need to but we're not sure if we're interpreting the wording correctly.  We realise that the EHIC covers for minor stuff but what if one of us had something more serious occur, i.e. a heart attack or a serious accident?  Would we be treated without
charge?

Does anyone know what the position is in this regard?

p.s. Jus had a brilliant weekend in Pwllheli with gorgeous sunshine and views back to Snowdon and the other mountains all covered in snow against a dazzling blue sky!
