So sorry to see you being hit by these latest floods especially after just recovering from the earlier December floods. Twice in one month is really hard. The pictures on your blog are quite depressing - I think I can just spot our May 2015 pitch. We are
booked for June 2016 for a 10 night stay and look forward to seeing you. Best wishes for the New Year with a hope of a return to normality.

Just for information. I asked the site wardens to post here on the forum, they had previously posted in the review section, as I thought it would reach more people here. It was because they had taken the trouble to do so I made this thread sticky. I have
also made the link in the original post clickable.

Because this is an important information thread, I've removed one or two posts which aren't relevant to this topic.

I would have thought information about the flooded site would have been posted on the front page of the Caravan Club website so members could easily find it? but obviously there is nobody in East Grinstead to do it :-)

You could take a look at the local webcam of the Ouse in York.

If you can see a river across the centre, rather than a lake all over, it may be low enough to get onto Rowntree.

If it's any help there is information on the Rowntree site details which says the site is closed till further notice and there is no telephone or internet access at present.

Not sure when your booking is but given the weather forecast for the area and the possibility of further flooding it does not look like the site will be open asgsin in the short term. It has been designed to open quickly after flooding so the club should
have it back fairly quickly once the flood threat is over.

If your booking iis in the near future it might be wise to switch it to Beechwood Grange if you can, as that site should not be affected, assuming you still want to go.

From what I can see the club will only cancel when they know they cannot honour a booking and then there coulod be a frenzy to get on other sites.

Hi everyone, just to let you know that unfortunately all bookings over the New Year period at York Rowntree Park have had to be cancelled due to flooding and at this stage it is unclear as to when the site will re-open. We will keep you informed on this
discusison and on the Sites details page for updates.

Wildwood ,we are due next Monday at York and as yet our booking has still not been cancelled but I will keep checking. It's not easy for me to 're arrange as I live 400 miles away from York but I was meeting my daughter otherwise I would just have gone elsewhere.

I do normally use Beechwood but it will be closed ,however what will be will be and there is plenty of people worse off than me so no moaning.

By the look of the lake that is the Rowantree site at present I can't see it being open for a couple of weeks at the earliest. The rain that's forecast for tonight and tomorrow will take at least another day or so to work it's way off the Dales and down
    as far as York.

You maybe right Nellie but  I would have waited for official notification that the site was to remain closed.

I have some further news on the situation.
York Beechwood Grange Caravan Club Site
will remain open throughout 2016 and will not be shutting as originally planned on the 4th January 2016.

Therefore if you are still looking to stay in the York area, York Beechwood Grange would be a good alternative, while York Rowntree Park is closed.

I'm impressed that the CC do have the ability to react to a situation - there is hope for the future after all

Is the Rowntree site actually flooded or is it just the access road which is underwater? Looking at the BBC video footage, which I assume was taken from the air yesterday, I cannot quite see for sure but it does not look as though the site itself is effected.

Reply from the Site warden.... The whole of the site has been flooded with over 5 feet of water in some places - the clean up will take a quite sometime. If you look at the first post in this discussion there is a link to the blog we created - this was done in the hope that our customers would look at these pictures to see the utter devastation that the river Ouse has left on site. As of today we do not have an opening date, as the river Ouse is still at the site entrance and is due to rise again tomorrow. York Beechwood Grange is a great alternative whilst we are closed. They will be open for all of 2016 and can be contacted directly on 01904 424637. Best regards, Janet & Carl Dixon - Wardens at York Rowntree Park

Thanks Janet, it does look a bit of a mess and I had forgotten about your Blog. Will they send in a swat team?

With the expected rise in the river tomorrow perhaps it's a bit early to be asking for volunteers to give a hand, but I guess there's nothing wrong with puttting feelers to see if there's anyone who would be willing to help.
