Data protection - Too far?
Call me grumpy if you like. I wanna tell you a story! Early this morning a courier called at the house with a largish envelope. I must have looked surprised as I had not ordered anything recently. "It's from the caravan club" he said. I opened it to find a number of Gift certificates inside, no senders details, just an invoice and an order number. The first thing I did was checked my bank account, no I had not ordered it so I presumed it must be a mistake. My wife decided that she would telephone EG and get to the bottom of it. After going through the usual checks ie membership number address, email address and vehicle details she asked where the certificates had come from. Can't say said the voice at the other end. The wife explained that if it wasn't a mistake how could we thank the sender. Was it a member of the club? Can't say! This conversation wasn't going anywhere. If someone has decided to get the club to send us some vouchers enclosed in a folder that said from........and to........why could that not be completed. Cannot tell you that! They did volunteer that they thought it came from a family member. At this point we gave up.
What is the club up to? Is this the action of a club or a business. They have the money in the bank and couldn't care less. I am beginning to wonder how much the club values my membership and I doubt whether I want to remain a member. I know next time I phone the club and they want information I shall give them a similar reply. "Can't say"!
