Experienced so far (apart from the rain) a very peaceful evening channel crossing via Eurotunnel and a short run to the nearest aire at Wissant. We have used this several times in the past and it is about 15 minutes from the port. After a nights rest we pointed
the van southwards, set the cruise control at 55 mph towards Beauvoir where we intended to stay for a few nights. The first thing we noticed is that our last trip to France nearly all the tolls are automated which was bad news for us as our liberte dongle
had not arrived by the time we left, despite it being dispatched over a week in advance. Thank you Royal Mail. Have you noticed that the ticket machines are set at a height favourable to cars or lorries? You have a choice either stand on your head or stand
on the seat and reach up. We motorhomers come somewhere in the middle. Seven hours later with two rest breaks we arrived at Beauvoir with the van looking like it had crossed a ploughed field. The satnav had chosen the shortest route and had taken us across
farming country for the last couple of miles. As we entered Beauvoir the first sight we came across was an aire which we were not aware of, charging only € 9.90 per night with EHU and free WiFi. We were tempted but decided to go for our original choice and
booked in at Camping Aux Pommiere a small site but good value. Some reviews I read were not very good but I would say otherwise. The staff are very polite, English speaking and very helpful. Le Mont St. Michel is signposted as 4km but its only about half that
distance to the car park where there is a shuttle bus to take you to the island. Be warned if you use the car park the charge is €20 the ticket machine is automated and takes credit/debit cards only, alternatively park by the roadside in Beauvoir and catch
the local bus for only €3. If you feel up to it you could walk along the canal path to Mont St. Michel but be aware if your tour includes the abbey you may not feel like walking back after negotiating the 300 step climb.
