I've found out today that one of my lovely little Westies has a massive tumour in her intestine. The vet says it's not operable so we are looking at keeping her happy and pain free for as long as she has left.

we've  had a great summer in the van in Cornwall but I never imagined it would be her last...

So sad.

This is one of the down sides of pet ownership ,and I have been through it, so I know your pain,

just be positive in that you have given her your best ,

Very sorry to hear your news. We've been there ourselves. All you can do is enjoy the rest of the time you have left together. You will know when the time comes to make that hard decision we are all faced with.

    Will be thinking of you.

Thanks for all your kind words. It's been a really difficult day. These are my second pair of Westies over the last 20 years so Ive had to make the difficult decision twice before but it doesn't get any easier. As SPK says I still have her at the moment.

I think we all feel for you as most of us have been in very similar situations in the past. Life is tough, make the most of the time you have left and think positive. It's horrible, but unavoidable sadly.....Cool

ggregu, such a poignant post, sad that you are going thru this again. As you can see you have support aplenty from fellow Dog lovers who've suffered the same as you have, me included. It never stops us from needing our Canine family members around us. We
know the years we have with them will be so special & enjoyable that the thought of losing them will be denied by us for many, many years. I agree with others, enjoy your time together for as long as you can. You will make the decision to say goodbye at the
right time, a Dog lover is one that puts the Dogs interests first-you are doing just that. My thoughts will be with you too.

Wow! You have all blown me away with your expressions of support. Thank you so much.

Its difficult to believe that the dog who is rolling around on her back in the garden has this vile thing inside her.

Thanks for your kind thoughts everyone. X

I've been through this myself recently, Ggregu, and still find it difficult to talk about. Be strong for your dog. There is some consolation at the end in knowing you've saved your dear dog from unnecessary suffering.

Sorry to hear the sad news ggregu. We love them so much it hurts like hell when they get sick. Its coming up to a year since we lost ours with cancer. Everyone on here was so kind in their thoughts and helped a great deal. They told me I'd know when the
time would come to say goodbye and they were right.  Enjoy your happy days together and all the great memories of the life you shared. X

So sorry to hear your sad news, Ggregu.

Westies have such a lovely temperament and are always curious about what's going on.

Enjoy your time with her and I'm sure you'll make sure that she enjoys herself and isn't in pain.

My poor little girl has finally left us today. I'm utterly devastated but am glad that she is now at peace.

She had a lovely Christmas and New Year which she wasn't expected to make...

She got to see all the people who love her one more time.

Thanks for your kind thoughts and sympathy. It doesn't get any easier how ever many times I do it. I am so grateful to my lovely vet who came to the house and was so gentle and loving in what she did.

Vets really are very special people.
