Gardens in France, I Will Start the Ball Rolling

Monet's garden at Giverny and the very formal garden at Villandry are both well known so let's set those two aside.  Can we compile a list of other less well known gardens that are worth including in a tour of France.

I will start the ball rolling by suggesting the Parc Floral at Apremont sur Allier - a very English garden in France - and the Latour Marliac garden at Le Temple sur Lot where we were today. It's packed with hundreds of water liliesin bloom -  in fact Monet bought all his from there to do his famous paintings over 100 years ago. 

More ideas please. And mods please correct the heading for me. Thanks. (Edited, DK)

    If you are in the Lot region then you won't be too far from Les Jardins de l'Imaginaire in Terrascon. A bit different from the normal.

    Jardins de Marqueyssac and Les Jardins Panoramiques de Limeuil both in the Dordogne.

    Add to that the gardens at Manoir d'Eyrignac near Sarlat. Possibly the best gardens we have seen and IMHO much prettier than Marqueyssac

    If you like formal gardens Chenonceaux is also worth a visit. It also has an interesting flower/vegetable garden around the back of the Chateaux.

    While Monet's Garden is a joy and the images can be seen in so many places as years go by to bring back the memory, can I suggest a water garden in the Dordogne. Les Jardins D'Eau de Carsac not far from Sarlat, fairly small but delightful.

    The Bambouseraie de prafrance, near Anduze, Gard is worth a visit.  It's a botanical garden specialising in Bamboos (as you've probably guessed).  The train a vapeur de Cevennes (Anduze to St. Jean de Gard) has a station next door.

    Thanks everyone for ideas - we now have a list-  but before the thread dies I will just throw in one more for garden lovers : Les Jardins de Martels between Albi and Touloouse. There will be a website with photos for sure, especially of  that lake stuffed full of lotus flowers.

    Whilst they may not be on the same 'grand scale' as others, there is an EU wide 'Open Gardens' scheme for the sort of Open Gardens in this country - home-owners willing to open their gardens to the public.  We've 'done' one or two of them, and they can be very interesting - and some also offer refreshments and plant sales.

    You can also find gardens which permit dogs on leads, those with disabled access (full or partial), parking, toilet facilities, and plants and refreshments on sale!  Opening hours are restrictred, obviously to dates when the garden is looking its very best!
