Overseas with a dog?

Hello

We intend touring through France into Northern Spain and have sorted out the route thanks to CT members. We have covered all necessary with the vet. Also looked at dog friendly beaches(Pletera l'estartit) but feeling a little apprehensive and would like
to know how others have found taking their dog with them. any advice appreciated.
