Overnighter near Poole Ferry Port

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to caravanning and although used to continental driving, have never taken a caravan abroad before. I have just booked the Poole to Cherbourg sailing on 19th August which is at 08.30.

Does anyone have suggestions for a site near the port where we can leave early without disturbing everyone else around us ie set up for that purpose?

I believe that some ports will allow overnight camping in their car park? I'm not sure if that is desirable though!
