EGR valve failure

Skoda (2012) 2.0TDi CR (138Bhp) engine, News Year’s eve leaving the M5 to join the M50 on the way to South Wales, I was solo and not towing, and the glow plug light started to flash, then the engine went into limp mode. Skoda Assist called (part of AA) plugged
his computer in and confirmed EGR valve failure; 24,600 miles on the clock and 3 years old.

It appears and have I found this information on the Skoda forum. It has been said; within the internals of the EGR valve, in that a small pin works loose damaging a couple of other components.

The EGR valve is no longer just the valve unit itself but now comes with its own cooling system and controller unit all incorporated into one unit. Therefore the part price is around £600-700 I was told this by the breakdown mechanic. Then on top of that
the unit is now positioned to the rear and bottom of the engine so the actual replacement is officially a 5-6 hour or so job I was told (over 8 hours for mine), they have to remove the undertray, DPF and disconnect the drive shaft and in my case the prop shaft
from the gearbox so as to get to the EGR unit.

Total cost around £1,500, thank goodness I had 10 days left on my 3 year warranty.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem with Skoda, VW, Audi and Seat with the same engine?
