Towing Mirrors

I have the following issues with attachment mirrors:

1. However carefully they are set, when you take them off and put them back on again they appear to need readjusting

2. The depth of field differs from that of the mirrors fixed to the towing vehicle

3. If you have two drivers of differing heights you have to fiddle about with the mirrors to readjust every time you change driver

When I was in US recently I noticed some vehicles where it was possible to move the wing mirror further from the vehicle when towing, thus avoiding having to fit 'clip on' mirrors. This appears to be a great idea and would eliminate the issues I referred
to above. Does anybody know whether this is legal in UH and if so whether any vehicles have them available, either as standard or an optional extra?

    I have not come across these but possibly only a limited number of vehicles with a large number of towing customers might be in the market to fit these.

    As for the legality the law requires the driver to be able to see down both sides of the trailer.  If you can achieve that then you are legal assuming the mirrors meet the required standards.

    Thank you Wildwood. I have had a quick look through the Regulations which are not simple to comprehend, for example, what do they mean by adjustability. However, I agree that there does not appear to be anything that prohibits a 'fixed' mirror provided it
    can be adjusted so that it does not protrude more than 20cm beyond the width of the vehicle or the caravan when being towed.

    I just find most 'add on' mirrors inefficient for the reasons mentioned above.
