Mobile wifi in Spain

Has anyone managed to get good mobile wifi in Spain? We tried 3 mobile wifi bought in UK which was supposed to work in Sapin but gave poor reception. Then we tried a Spanish Vodafone SIM in the 3 router. That didn't give good reception either. (Btw, a Portuguese
Vodafone SIM in the 3 router worked a treat in Portugal!). Any better experiences?
