Bilbao to Benidorm, Best route with caravan???

    We use Saga for breakdown at home and UK.  Annual cover, 180 days. 

    Ther home insurance is 60 days.

    We have just completed this route and are currently on the med  coast. Depending on what time your ferry docks Zaragoza might be too far for the first night. Then you should stay at Haro or Navrette. Both are ACSI sites but at current exchange rates it can work out cheaper booking through one of the two main clubs. Zaragoza site is Ok but again. Cheaper to pre book. It is a steady climb from Bilbao to 70 Km from the med coast. Weather a few days ago was below freezing with fog for a lot of the journey. The Madrid route has steeper initial climb then a large plateau across central Spain and a steeper decent. But the tolls are a far less this way. If you tow a twin axle the auto toll booths will try to charge you class 3, you need to press the help button and point out you are not a wagon. Roads are good on both routes. Previous years we have experienced snow on both routes. Have a good journey and a great time.

    Thanks Rushallmanor, this is the type of information I was looking for.smileIt is great hearing from someone that has experienced the journey.When you check map/or Michelin guides they don't show you which route has the most uphill gradients.

    I arrive in Bilbao at 215pm so I thought Zaragoza would probably be too far away.I try to average around 45 miles in an hour,hopefully that is possible.

    Haro or Navrette??? Which one is closest to the motorway/toll and easiest to reach?Is there motorway service stations that you can pay to stay the night?

    I have single axle Hobby caravan.

    Have you experienced snow in March?We arrive on 26th.

    I have some pics on my HDD somewhere showing snow on the peaks behind Benidorm in March but that is unusual. The roads, however, were clear.

    WCB both sites are similar, not far off the AP68. Navrette has easier access in my opinion. Snow can be around in March but the roads should be clear.

    Thanks again to everyone that is offering advice.I have been in Benidorm in January and March previously and it was very cold at night.It's amazing that this country can have such a difference in temperatures during the day/evening.

     If I was going by car I would seriously consider going via the Somport Tunnel. Yes the road is not very wide in places on the French side but HGVs use the route and it is kept clear of snow like any other major route. The last three winter trips I have used this route using https://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/dynamic/pyrenees and Michelin Traffic to keep an eye on conditions.
