New Car Tax whilst travelling abroad

This may sound like a silly question..but someone must know the answer and I can't find it on here. We spend a lot of time in Spain and travelling Europe. Throughout this time we have encountered the Guardia Civil doing road checks on British registered
cars. They only appear to check the tax disc. If its not in date they know technically you probably have no insurance or MOT and impound the vehicle! I am extremely concerned that we could get our car impounded if after October we don't display a tax disc!
Has provision been made to share DVLA s details with their European counterparts?
