Swiss Mountain Passes
I'm in the process of planning our summer trip to Switzerland and Austria. Our outfit is a Mercedes 220CDI towing a 6metre caravan and less than a tonne. At the moment my planned route includes the Stelvio Pass, Umbrail Pass and Oberalp Pass all of which
in Caravan Europe are listed as 'Not Recommended for Caravans' as opposed to Caravans Prohibited. I'm sure I used the Oberalp Pass some 30 years ago whilst towing and don't recall anything I didn't like. Other passes are also planned but these don't have any
particular notes to advise against their use. Does anyone have experience of these whilst towing and what is the 'Not Recommended' based upon? It seems to be purely personal opoinion. I believe I'm a pretty confident and competent driver and would like to
especialy enjoy the scenery, providing of course the weather is on our side. I've watched several You Tube videos and they don't seem to show anything especially worrying. Many thanks.
