Taking my labrador to France

I have done lots of trips to Europe but never taken the dog.  I am now fed up of the guilt trip which comes with leaving her in kennels so would like to take her with her this summer.  I am just wondering how far south is acceptable for a labrador in August? 
If anyone has any experience of taking their dog abroad in the summer I would love to hear from you.
