Something Different for a Dales Visit!
The little town of Middleham hosts a very special day out every Good Friday, and I am so wishing I remembered to post this yesterday!
Hidden away behind old stone frontages and gates, all over the middle of the town are some of the most famous horse racing stables in England, and certainly outside of Newmarket! Once a year, the gates are thrown open and the whole place takes part in a
celebration of all things racing! Visitors can have a look around stables in the town and further up on the moors, and watch horses swimming in the training pools and working out on the gallops up above the Castle. We used to visit each year, and I have very
fond memories of stroking and giving a carrot to both Red Rum and Desert Orchid. The event used to be huge, attracting thousands to see the Channel Four racing team and lots of famous horses, but is a bit smaller nowadays, but still a great day out, with children
free.
So apologies for not posting this yesterday or earlier, but anyone staying at Leyburn or Hawes sites, you can still do a stables morning tour for a reasonable price! And of course visit Richard III's castle!
