Insurance loophole that saves £14

Spoke to insurance company (DirectLine) about our trip to France at the end of the month and was quoted £41.50 for the ten days we are away.

I told him I thought it was excessive given how much I pay annually for my ML 420 CDi. He says if it was only a short trip of three days, it would be completely free. I say, ok, I'll have a free three day policy and then please quote me for the remainder.
No problem sir, £27.50 - "It's a loophole we obviously don't advertise but is perfectly legitimate if customers ask for it"

Too much effort for £14 Saving?
