Inside my Wastemaster, Yuk
Last weekend I was checking the caravan and looked inside the Wastemaster, Yuk, the inner surface was covered with brown gunge and the stink was awful. I have filled it with clean water and used some of the biological washing powder that people have been
talking about on another Thread. It will be interesting to see what it looks like after a couple of weeks. What do other people use to keep it clean?

We clean ours with hot soapy water, sometimes with a bit of bleach mixed in, leaving it for a couple of hours then rinsing out. I would think bio washing powder in hot water would work well too.

Hi Nuggy, if you use the bio pods as against the bio powder, then you should see a significant improvement.
I used three bio pods and half filled my waste tank, then went for a ten mile drive, on return I left the tank for 24hrs then drained. Success, no nasty odours and the volume of water coming out was like emptying a new tank, obviously I can't see inside
my tank, but the lack of odours is very noticable. That was four months ago, still lookiing and smelling good........

I leave my waste container proped up outside in the sun, between trips; bung out, bottom facing the south. Then it dries out and the gunge turns to a self peeling dry film that washes away on next emptying.
Long continental holidays is a challenge, then best to give it a break and use a bucket for a few days.

Thanks everyone, HandT, why didn't I think of adding a bit of bleach? BrianTimber, why is there a difference between bio pods and bio powder? Wildwood, I dare you. Ocsid, I could try it in the summer when I get home and leave it in the back garden, if we get some sun !!! If I try a high pressure hose I had better get a visor for my helmet. Cheers

We use a dash of bleach from time to time but also manage what goes in the waste i.e. no food particles, oil, fat etc. The "grey" waste is therefore often quite clean and can easily be disposed of.

I throw a couple of bio pods into the waste tank every couple of weeks when we are away for long trips. First we empty the waste tan, then I empty the hot water tank through the taps into the waste tank, pop in a couple of pods and drive to the next site.
When its next emptied all the muck comes away.0 -
What a fastidious lot you all are. I haven't rinsed or washed out my wastemaster in five years. It's only shower/washing up water not a toxic chemical lake.

We clean ours properly a couple of times a year but give it a quick rinse every time I empty it. Also before moving on run the hot water off into it, which also helps to keep it clean. As it travels and lives in the van it is nice to minimise odours. If
you screw the caps on tight, they can really pressurise on a hot day.0 -

Write your comments here... ADP1963, I have some Jeyes fluid and in the summer put a few drops in the water butt to kill the mozzies larva. It has a very powerful smell but the neighbours haven't complained yet. Is this the Jeyes that you are talking about? or do Jeyes make an odourless product?
