Staying on Portsmouth Docks on ferry return

Just spotted another post regarding staying on dockside at Portsmouth. We arrive back from Spain at 20-45 in late September and have made a CL booking on Hayling Island.( We have 320 mile drive when we leave Portsmouth.) But was just wondering if it was possible to stay on dockside on our arrival and get off early for home. A 21-30ish arrival at CL may not be too popular.
