Temporary site in October for NEC show
Hi can anyone advice as to when i can book a few nights on the temp site for NEC show in October,please and how would i go about it?

last time we used a THS CCC site at Croxall Farm, 10 mins away and a third (or less) of the ridiculous on site charge of around £35....total rippoff.

As I understand the situation the Club actually charge members what it costs to make the provision so I don't see how that is a rip-off? Surely you would not expect members not attending the show to help subsidise the cost? Everyone is free to make other
arrangements which may well be cheaper but then you have to spend extra time and money getting to the venue. No one is being forced to stay there.David

Besides the cost the other issue is the arrival and departure times. If you want to do the show justice then one night on the site isn't really long enough IMHO, especially if you are looking to buy a new van. If you are a C&CC member then Croxall Farm THS
is very convienient and cheap at £8.50 pun.0 -
The price is certainly a turn off but perhaps if the costs were less for camping they would impose parking charges on the rest of us - so I will try for somewhere a little closer than home (I have done it in a day but the return journey was awful!)

David, if you think £35 is a reasonable amount to stay in the NEC car park (albeit with a skip to put your rubbish in and a 6amp ehu supply) than you are entitled to your opinion.
i thinks its a blooming rip off.
as most visitors will be happy with one night (two would be £70 for the dubious pleasure) and most can make a leisure battery last 24 hours, why not dispense with the ehu supply and charge, say, a tenner for an overnight stay?
less hassle and cost for the club and a sensible deal,for those who wish to prolong a visit.

the normal free parking is run by NEC and has nothing to do with CC.
cc have decided that we all need ehu (even for a few hours sleep in the van) and will therefore ensure that they recoup their (unnecessary) investment......
i did it once, but as PG9 says, for a decent look around the show, you really need a full day but the arrival times (due to change over) dont give you this, whereas even staying in the ordinary car park you can have a full day.....
croxhall farm is very convenient.

There must be a demand for it though as I seem to remember it is always full. I agree about the electrics - not necessary at all! But I think us non EHU users are in the minority.
...nobody 'needs' an ehu to spend one night in a MH.....
however, if they want to pay £35 a night for the pivilege, thays fine.
perhaps splitting the temp site into two areas would be good....
a tenner for no ehu, £35 for ehu?

When we visited the NEC looking to order our caravan, we needed a full day. We had the MH at the time with a for sale sign in!!
We got a hotel in Birmingham with breakfast for £30 for 2 adults, 1 child on the Friday night. We arrived at opening time and left late.
The CC temporary site is not practical for us with school finishing time meaning we'd arrive late evening then have to pay 2 nights.
Last time we drove up and back in a day in comfort in the tow car, for less than £30 in fuel.
I do wonder what the CC think at times

Its not a question of defending the Club but more a case of defending common sense. Assuming for the moment that I am correct in what I am saying that the Club set out to recover the costs involved in setting up the site and running it for the duration of
the show. Do people really expect the Club to run the temporary site at a loss which seems to be what some are suggesting? Of course it won't suit everyone to stay there but if that is what it costs to set up and run you can't complain about the price. If
you feel it is not to your idea of value just make other plans. Don't run it down because clearly some members want the facility and are prepared to pay for it and would miss it if it wasn't there. Its not a problem for me as its just as easy to drive my car
or catch a train from MK.David

David it was a light hearted friendly comment hence the smiley and you are correct about costs etc however either way it is still very over priced for a temporary site.

im not suggesting that the club shouldnt try and recover their costs, my point was more that a (obviously very expensive to install and set up) site with unneccesary ehu is a service too far for those who will be staying one night....
the service could easily be just a simple overnight stopover with fresh water, toilet and rubbish disposal, all for a tenner...
once your into hiring fields of generators, cable etc your ramping up the costs....
this car park costs almost twice as mich as a full fat cc site... totally over the top....

There is obviously a demand for it though - I wonder how many people using it are stall holders etc there for the duration. I remember trying to book on (without knowing the cost) and finding it was fully booked. As David says I would much rather the charge
was realistic to the costs and not subsidised by us members who don't want to use it. Two years ago there were several show goers at Warwick Racecourse - some stall holders I think.0 -
pippah, people pay because its Hobsons Choice....all local sites get booked up well in advance, even the THS we use requires booking, so apathy costs....in this case £35.
no choice in the level of service required, ie a simple no frills area at a reasonable price....i think its an unneccessary level of provision which then requires a recouping of those costs....
i vote with my wheels, doent stop me having an opinion that this is way over the top for a one nighter at a van show.
