Visiting Holland in Tulip time

we are hoping to visit Holland to look at the tulip fields but  have not been to Holland before & it is some 15 years since we last went abroad (France). Now back caravanning & would be pleased if anyone can give me advice on Holland, best places to see
tulip fields, approx best time to go,general site advice, maps needed etc.I have read about various options regarding currency but would appreciate other peoples experiences in this regard.  As you can see we live in South Yorks so I  suppose a ferry from
Hull would be the best route  Thanks in advance
