France Breathalyzer

Hi, I've seen conflicting reports as to whether personal breathalyzers are still a requirement in France or whether the rule is actually enforced anymore. Is there a definitive answer or recomendation from CC members? If so, which one to buy?

My sister lives in France and tells me the law was sort of put on the back burner, because no one took any notice of it. The fine was only 11 euros. Not much more than two kits. So whilst the law still exists on their statute, it is not enforced. She says they have not seen any kits on sale for ages In the Provence.

The sole/major manufacturer of the kits appears to have been a close ally/friend/relative of Sarkozy.

I and a number of others on here have been breathalysed in France post the introduction of this law (they close the road and breahalyse everyone) and was not asked for a kit.

The law as stated by SteveL still exists but is not enforced so do not waste any money on buying a kit.

And allegedly Sarkozy had a substantial shareholding in the company. There was also a problem with the breathalizer kit. It degraded rapidly in hot cars, of which there are many in France - particularly in the south.......
